Laura Benetton is the new artist in Residency at the Institute of Biomedicine in Barcelona

We have great news to share! We are pleased to announce that we have a new Artist in Residence at IRB Barcelona: Laura Benetton.

Laura Benetton is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist working at the intersection of art and science. She is a talented creator who is blending art and science in fascinating and exciting ways.

Her work is informed by scientific phenomena such as bioluminescence and movement science. Generative in nature, her work spans a wide range of media, including performance, light installation, sculpture, and bio-art.

Laura Benetton’s abstract paintings and drawings incorporate the language of geometry where structures are dynamic and entangle color washes, LED lighting, and lines.

When we asked Laura about her feelings about becoming our new Artist in Residence, she stated:

Becoming an artist in residency at the Institute for Research in Biomedicine in Barcelona represents a unique opportunity to further deepen my knowledge in the scientific field of work and to interact with talented and inquisitive individuals from a completely diverse work discipline.

Through a transdisciplinary dialogue between the studio and the lab space, IRB Barcelona's cross-pollination approach between contemporary arts and science offers a singular chance for scientists and artists to grow and expand their thinking processes and investigations. This would allow me time to ponder, conduct research, and develop a new ambitious, and original art installation”.
